Why is my attendance monitored?

It’s important that you go to all your teaching sessions at University.

All students’ attendance is monitored and if you have a student visa, it relies on a certain level of attendance. There is a requirement for universities to report to the UK Borders Agency if a student doesn’t meet the terms of their visa. If you’re on a student visa then you need to be especially aware of attendance requirements.

For more info, check out the University’s Guide for Taught Students on Attendance Monitoring (PDF). Plus there’s lots of guidance for research students at the Regulations, Codes, Policies and Procedures page.

If there’s a problem with your attendance your School/ Department should contact you to find out why. If the problem continues you could risk getting expelled from the University.
