NUS: What is the NUS Liberation Conference?

The Liberation Conference also occurs annually. It provides students from liberation groups the opportunity to set the direction for the NUS’ Liberation campaigns and to elect their Officers and Committee. The main activity of this Conference is to debate and vote on motions, in order to determine which will become the official NUS policy for five years.

There are 5 NUS Liberation campaigns which are designed to represent:

  • Women students
  • Black students
  • Trans students
  • LGBTQ+ students
  • Disabled students

Unlike the Delegates for National Conference, Delegates for Liberation Conference are not elected. Instead we offer them to our Liberation Coordinators, and then open out the offer to appropriate Clubs & Societies.

*The term ‘Black’ is used by the NUS to refer to African, Asian, Arab and Caribbean people and those who self-define as Black.
