What will happen on strike days?
Which schools will be affected?
We don’t know exactly. We know that in some Schools teaching will be badly affected and in other Schools no teaching will be affected.
No-one will know in advance which Schools will be most affected, because staff striking don’t have to let their Schools or Departments know in advance of them taking action. We know from previous strikes that not all academic staff are in UCU or if they are they might not strike on all of the days.
The only other thing that will happen, is that you will see picket lines (groups of staff with posters and banners) at some entrances of the University.
Will all staff be on strike?
No. Not all staff are members of the UCU. Of around 5500 academic, professional and managerial staff, around 1800 are members of UCU. Some staff might not go on strike at all, while others might go on strike for all 3 days.
How do I know if my lecturer is on strike?
Your school will be the best source of information about rescheduled activities and will do what it can to keep you updated. We encourage you to speak to the school’s student support /taught student office or Head of School if you have any questions.
Will my lecturer be on strike for all 3 days?
We don’t know and neither will the University or your School. Striking staff don’t have to let their Schools or Departments know in advance of them taking action. During the last strikes some staff took part in every day of strike action, some did not take part at all.
