Appeals against Health and Conduct Decisions

Appealing School-level Decisions

If you receive an outcome from the School Panel that you are unhappy with, you can appeal to the University Committee. You would need to write to Student Cases within 10 working days of the date on your outcome letter.

There are no specific grounds listed for this type of appeal, but best practice would be to outline the reasons why you think the decision was incorrect, or if you think the procedure was not followed properly. It is not enough to simply state that it’s unfair, or to talk about the impact on your future career.

It's important to provide any relevant evidence that you want the Committee to consider. You cannot leave anything out hoping to provide it later in the process, as this is highly unlikely to be accepted.

A member of the LUU Advice Team can give feedback on a draft that is emailed to us with enough notice before your deadline. We can also advise on what types of evidence to use.

Appealing University-level Decisions

If you receive an outcome from the University Committee on Student Health and Conduct that you are unhappy with, you can appeal to the Vice-Chancellor. You would need to write to Student Cases within 20 working days of the date on your outcome letter.

The same advice as above applies to this type of appeal.

The email address for Student Cases is studentcases@leeds.ac.uk

Complaining to the OIA

If you are still unhappy with the decision after this final appeal within the University you can complain to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (the OIA).

It’s advisable to contact LUU Advice to talk about taking your case to the OIA.
