University Committee on Health and Conduct

The University Committee on Health and Conduct is made up of around 3-5 academic staff members. They will not have any connection with you, but at least one member will be a fully registered practitioner in the profession you are studying towards.

If your case is referred to the Committee you will be invited to attend a hearing.

It is important that you prioritise attendance, as they can hear your case in your absence if you do not attend without ‘good cause’. If this happens, you would forfeit your right to appeal.

Committee Hearings for Health and Conduct are held in-person, and are private and confidential. You can take one supporter who is unrelated to the case, but they cannot represent you or speak on your behalf. This could be a friend or family member, or you could ask a member of the LUU Advice Team to attend. We need as much notice as possible to check availability for this.

You will be given the opportunity to give your side of the story, including any mitigating circumstances that might have impacted on your judgement. You may also be asked questions by the Committee.

They will decide whether the circumstances mean you have to be excluded from your programme or not. If they find that you can continue, your progress may need to be monitored.

If they find that your health and/or conduct does disbar you from professional practise, you would be removed from the programme. In this case you would be offered the following:

  • Career counselling, and
  • Where appropriate, either an intermediate/exit qualification, or
  • The option to apply for entry to another, non-vocational programme

There is an appeal process we can help you with if you are unhappy with the outcome.

Do make sure to contact LUU Advice if your case is at the University Committee level. Even if we cannot attend your hearing, we can still advise you on the process and help with your statement.
