Every year, LUU elects 13 Activities Reps to sit on the Activities Executive, a group of students that get to represent and make key decisions about how clubs and societies run at LUU. From allocating club and society grant funding, approving policies, or simply championing and celebrating their society category, Activities Reps have an amazing opportunity to make a positive impact on student opportunities, and gain valuable professional experience.
What do Activities Reps do?
Activities Reps are responsible for:
- Managing and approving £70,000+ in grant funding for societies
- Approving the formation of new societies and closure of existing ones
- Overseeing the discipline of clubs and societies
- Listening to their societies and giving guidance and support to the Activities and Opportunities Officer and the panel at Better Union
- Approving policy that relates to clubs and societies
- Delivering and assisting with events and campaigns
Gathering feedback from their society category is central to the role of Activities Rep. With this feedback, the Activities Executive will make decisions on policy that directs the LUU Activities Team’s work. This ensures that LUU continues to co-deliver the UK’s leading Club and Society programme, responding to our communities' needs. This feedback enables the Reps to guide Better Union panel members in making decisions that affect the whole of LUU. Lastly, the Reps can hold the Activities and Opportunities officer to account.
Am I eligible? What are the categories?
All of our clubs and societies belong to one of 13 categories, which are: General Interest, Academic, Welfare, Volunteering, Faith, Culture, Political and Campaigning, Sports, Outdoor, Martial Arts, Music and Performance, Dance, and Media. You can look on Engage to find out what category your society belongs to.
If you are a current University of Leeds student, and hold a club or society membership, you are eligible to nominate yourself to be the Activities Rep of the category your society is in! If you are in multiple societies, you can choose which category to nominate yourself in.
Why should you nominate yourself?
You get to make a positive impact on the club and society experience at LUU, whilst gaining valuable professional experience! There are also further perks - as an Activities Rep, you’ll be added to our Events VIP list, which means free guestlist entry to some gigs and Fruity! We also organise Activities Exec socials throughout the year, which is a great way to destress and have some fun.
Commitments
We recognise that this is a voluntary role, and as a University student you may have to juggle other commitments alongside. We are flexible about what you want to give to the role and can be guided by you! We ask that you try to attend at least 80% of Activities Exec meetings, which usually happen every 1-2 weeks during term-time and can be joined either in-person or online. We take breaks over holidays and exam periods. To support you in your role, we also ask that you meet with your link LUU Activities staff member at least once a term.
How do I nominate myself?
Please click the 'nominate yourself' link next to the Rep position you would like to go for! You will be asked to upload a candidate poster, and a candidate statement which highlights why you want to run to be the Activities Rep of your category, and why you think you would be a good fit. You might want to write a little bit on your experience in clubs and societies, and what you hope to achieve on the Activities Exec. Please bear in mind that you will only be able to nominate yourself for a Rep position if you have an active membership of a society in that category (i.e. if you do not have an active membership of a volunteering society, you cannot nominate yourself as Volunteering Rep).

Nominations close Wednesday 5 February at 2pm.
A candidate campaigning briefing session will be held on Thursday 6 February at 1:30pm.
