Welcome to Basketball (m)

LUU Men’s Basketball

This is the official society for Men’s Basketball at the University of Leeds.

We are a competitive club but also offer an interlocking development squad that helps push up the standards in our BUCS teams. We offer high-intensity, quality sessions for all members. There is a strong social side to the society with varied, fun events hosted every Wednesday suited to everyone.

We currently have three teams that compete in the National University League – BUCS and one development team that provides new talent for our 3rd team.

  • 1st Team – Northern Tier 2B
  • 2nd Team – Northern Tier 3B
  • 3rd Team – Northern Tier 5B
  • Development Team – Non-competitive

Team captains will select their players on account of trials, however, there is a large flexibility that allows players to move between teams if necessary. It is also imperative that development players get an opportunity to compete – 3 players every week will rotate in and out of this team based on training performance and commitment to the club.

Sessions will take place:

  • Mondays 6:30 – 9:00 pm for 1st and 2nd team players.
  • Wednesdays 9:00 – 10:00 pm for Development players (open to 3rd team players).
  • Fridays 5:00 – 7:00 pm for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team players (+ 3 development players).

All sessions are run by our Head Coach, so you are getting the same quality and technical input, no matter your ability.

The other side of the society is the social aspect. We host events every Wednesday evening that include a theme and fun games – it is a great place to build friendships and chemistry within the club. Frequently, we co-host joint events with other groups – most often the Women’s Basketball Society.

Here all titles are stripped, and it becomes a group of people all with one common interest. We get everyone involved and “more the merrier” is the aim of the game. There is no emphasis on drinking so don’t worry about having to get involved on that front.

If you are interested in joining the Men’s Basketball Society, you will need to purchase a membership.

  • Standard Membership (non-playing)
  • Development Membership (Development team)
  • BUCS Membership (1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams)

This membership covers the cost of the training equipment, coaching, table officials, referees, travel, socials, and the ability to play in BUCS games (if applicable).

Memberships are required to be part of the club in any capacity, however, we will offer two “give it a go” sessions – at the beginning of the first and second terms. It will cost £ 5 and will allow you to gauge whether you want to purchase the full membership.

*Please note all players that play in BUCS games must purchase the £16.50 England Basketball membership (this is not through the university and not something we are charging players for). *
