Fitness to Study Case Conference
If you have already met with your School about your fitness to study, you might get referred further to a ‘case conference’. This can also happen more quickly if your case is deemed serious.
A case conference is a meeting with Student Cases, and other key support staff. This might include people like your Head of School, Personal Tutor, Disability Support Mentor and so on.
You will be invited to write a statement and provide evidence that shows your current health/wellbeing status, any support you are engaging in, or support that you think you need. For example, if Disability Services are not already aware of a diagnosis you have that is causing you to struggle with your work, you might include details of this diagnosis and what support you need. What you send to Student Cases will depend on your individual situation. If you choose not to send a statement or any evidence, the case conference will still go ahead.
Any staff involved will first meet to discuss your situation and they will come up with an action plan to support you. In some cases this might be a recommendation of temporary exclusion. Permanent exclusion would only be recommended in the most extreme cases. These decisions can be appealed if needed, please read our related articles for more information.
You will be invited to the second half of the meeting where they will propose the plan to you and gather your input. You can have a supporter attend this meeting with you. If you give us enough notice and we have availability, an LUU Advisor can attend as your supporter, but this could also be a friend or family member.
You will be sent an outcome of the case conference within five working days. Details of how to make an appeal or complaint will be included in this letter.
If your case is referred to Student Cases please let LUU Advice know so we can advise and support you.
