School Meetings

The first step is for someone in your School to contact you and invite you to meet and discuss your situation. This should be a supportive conversation, you are not in trouble.

They will talk you through any forms of support that could be beneficial, for example they might ask you to engage with Disability Services, Counselling and Wellbeing Services, or to speak to your GP.

They will keep a record of your meeting and will send this to you afterwards.

If the case is serious they might refer you to a First Fitness to Study Meeting with someone higher up in the School. This person will either help come up with a time-bound action plan, or they might recommend you temporarily withdraw from your studies to focus on your wellbeing.

If you have an action plan, you will be invited to review this during a Second Fitness to Study Meeting within 10 working days of the first meeting.

If you temporarily withdraw, your School will set some conditions for return such as a doctor’s note stating you are now fit to study. You can read more about temporary withdrawal in our related articles.

These decisions will be informed by your input too, but in some cases it will be necessary for the School to refer things further. For example, if they see evidence of significant circumstances but you deny you are struggling, or if you refuse to engage in support. You will be told if your case is being referred to Student Cases.

If you get invited to one of these meetings, or if your case gets referred, please speak to LUU Advice for support and guidance.
