What is Fitness to Study?

Fitness to Study (FTS) is the procedure used when the University has a concern that you might not be well enough to study. This includes positively engaging in other areas of university life than just academics, such as your behaviour in the local community, during placements and so on.

We know that FTS can sound scary, but it is designed to be a supportive procedure. While exclusion can be an outcome of this procedure, the University are not looking to withdraw students unnecessarily. They will work with you to ensure you are getting supported in the best way possible.

They will look at things like reasonable adjustments before deciding that a student is not fit to study. However, in the most serious cases they can immediately temporarily exclude a student to protect either themselves or others.

You can read the full FTS procedure here.

If you get invited to a meeting about your FTS, read our article on School level meetings here. You can speak to an LUU Advisor if you have any questions about your case.
