If you are not happy with the outcome
If your appeal gets accepted into the process but then you don’t accept the final outcome, you can ask for this to be reviewed further by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education (DVC). You have 10 working days from the date of your outcome letter to appeal further.
The only grounds to appeal on are:
a) The decision of the Committee on Applications or Panel was unreasonable in the light of the evidence supplied
b) The procedure for the Panel’s review or the Committee on Applications’ hearing of the appeal was deficient in a way which materially prejudiced your case
c) New evidence has emerged which was not available when the appeal was lodged and there is a good reason why it was not brought to the Panel or Committee on Applications’ attention during the Panel’s review or the Committee on Applications hearing of the appeal
Disagreeing with the outcome is not in itself a ground for appeal.
Student Cases will only pass appeals to the DVC for review if they meet the deadline and one or more of the grounds, and if they have relevant supporting evidence.
The decisions that can be made at DVC appeal are:
- To uphold the Panel or Committee outcome
- To vary the Panel or Committee outcome
- To refer the matter back to the Panel or Committee for reconsideration
The DVC (or Student Cases) will give you a Completion of Procedures letter. If you are still unhappy with the decision after this final appeal within the University you can complain to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (the OIA).
It’s advisable to contact LUU Advice to talk about taking your case to the DVC or the OIA.
