The appeals procedure is currently being redeveloped. Some new aspects are being brought in this year, and we are updating our guidance as things develop. If you're unclear about any part of the procedure, please email advice@luu.ac.uk or contact Student Cases at studentcases@leeds.ac.uk.

If your appeal gets accepted into the process but then you don’t accept the final outcome from the Committee, you can ask for this to be reviewed further by the Pro-Vice Chancellor: Student Education & Experience (PVC). You have 10 working days from the date of your outcome letter to appeal further.

The only grounds to appeal on are:

• The decision was unreasonable in the light of the evidence supplied.
• The procedure used to make the decision was deficient in a way which materially prejudiced the case.
• New evidence has emerged which was not available when the decision was made and there is a good reason why it was not submitted earlier.

Disagreeing with the outcome is not in itself a ground for appeal.

Student Cases will only pass appeals to the PVC for review if they meet the deadline and one or more of the grounds, and if they have relevant supporting evidence.

The decisions that can be made at PVC review are:

• Confirm the decision of the Committee;
• Vary the decision of the Committee in any respect;
• Refer the matter back to the Committee for reconsideration.

The PVC (or Student Cases) will send you a Completion of Procedures letter. If you are still unhappy with the decision after this final appeal within the University you can complain to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (the OIA).
