The appeals procedure is currently being redeveloped. Some new aspects are being brought in this year, and we are updating our guidance as things develop. If you're unclear about any part of the procedure, please email advice@luu.ac.uk or contact Student Cases at studentcases@leeds.ac.uk.

If the Committee are determining your appeal you will be invited to a hearing and should be given at least 10 working days' notice. Hearings are usually held online via Microsoft Teams. It's important to prioritise attendance, but if you have a good reason you can't attend you should contact Student Cases to let them know.

If the Committee are reviewing a Stage 2a appeal then you won't normally be asked to attend the hearing.

Hearings are a chance for a panel of senior academic staff to better understand your case. They will ask you questions but do try not to worry about this as you know your case better than anyone else. Hearings should be investigative in nature rather than adversarial. The panel will not include any staff from your School.

You can have a supporter attend your hearing with you - this could be a friend or family member, or one of LUU's Student Advice Caseworkers. If you'd like one of our team to attend, please contact us with as much notice as possible as we cannot always guarantee attendance due to availability. Your supporter is not there to represent you and cannot speak on your behalf - instead they are there for moral support.

You should receive the outcome of the hearing within 10 working days. If you’re happy with the decision then that’s the end of your appeal.
