Welcome to LUUMS (Music)

The Leeds University Union Music Society (LUUMS) is one of the largest societies in the LUU dedicated to providing a welcoming space for musicians of all genres. Whether your interests lie in classical, film, pop or jazz, LUUMS has a something for you regardless of your subject of study, musical ability or taste.

For 2025/26 Membership, please see below!

All current rehearsals are taking place at the School of Music, in Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall, the Rehearsal Hall and Lecture Theatres.

There are 11 ensembles for you to be involved with, both open ensembles and auditioned, for any instrument or ability! LUUMS is committed to giving the musicians in Leeds a chance to show their talent by ensuring that each ensemble performs a minimum of 3 concerts a year. As well as individual concerts for each ensemble in venues such as the Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall, All Souls Church and St. George’s Church, we also host a variety of solo and small group performances in classical and casual settings!

Alongside the diverse array of musical opportunities that we offer, LUUMS also has an exciting social calendar. Rehearsals are typically followed by a trip to Old Bar, and the year is packed full of socials for everyone to get involved in. These include large socials union with live music, and karaoke, Otley Runs, Sports Day and the highlight of the social calendar, the LUUMS Ball! In addition, our ensembles host their own socials to get to know everyone you rehearse with weekly. Each year, the auditioned ensembles tour around the UK and Europe in summer, providing an exciting opportunity to perform outside of Leeds and similarly the Brass Band partake in the TriUni and UniBrass competitions hosted at partner universities in the UK. The 25/26 season will also mark the 100th year anniversary since LUUMS's foundation in 1926 - more info will be available on our instagram page and website in coming months!
