About Group

Open to all, Women's Cricket aims to help everyone improve their game, making memories along the way

With no trials, everyone is welcome to join women’s cricket, whether you’re a seasoned professional or have never picked up a bat. Our weekly training sessions are structured to be beneficial to all abilities, with extra net sessions for those who wish to improve further. For those more experienced players, MCCU cricket is available to challenge yourself, both with extra training sessions and matches. Regular themed socials are available to all, with social memberships on offer for those who wish to solely partake in our events. Sober socials ensure all members are included and everyone has fun. Come to our GIAG to see what we’re all about or send us a message and join a fun, friendly and inclusive society.

Training

Due to COVID-19:

Semester 1 training will take place Fridays 5pm - 7pm in the Edge Sports Hall 2, with extra fitness sessions varying in time and location – details regarding extra sessions will be sent out on Facebook.

If you have played cricket before to a good level, pre-MCCU training takes place upon invitation 9:30-10:30am on Saturdays.

Indoor nets take place on Mondays and Tuesdays 10am-12pm off campus.

In semester 2, training takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9pm at Weetwood.

Semester 2 net sessions will take place at Headingley Indoor Centre.

Socials

Themed socials take place every Wednesday, with beer pong tournaments, joint socials and Otley runs being a few favourites. Sober socials take place monthly, including movie nights and pizza parties, ensuring all members are involved.

Membership

£35 Standard Annual Membership

£15 Social membership

* Membership gives you access to professional training sessions, chances to play outdoor cricket games, fitness training, discounts on deals at socials and the chance to buy the LUU cricket kit. We also provide kit (pads, gloves, helmet and bats) for those that are starting out or don’t have kit.

MCCU team

For more experienced players, we’ve teamed up with Leeds Beckett to form an MCCU team with the highest quality training. This includes one-to-one batting sessions, regular net sessions and a weekly strength and conditioning session. If you’re interested, further details will be provided at our regular training sessions and on our members’ Facebook page.

Community

Throughout the year, Women’s Cricket aim to encourage all members to get involved with our fundraising opportunities through events such as quiz nights and sponsored event. We encourage our members to make a positive impact on the local community. 2016/17 we successfully raised over £1,200 for charity, while during the COVID-19 lockdown, members took part in the ashes challenge, cumulatively running the distance between the 5 ashes 2019 test grounds. We assist members in getting involved in creating their own fundraising events such as open-mic nights or anything you can think of! This enhances employability and lets you get to know what it is like to be part of the committee.

Insurance

Please be aware that we do not provide personal accident insurance cover related to this activity. If you would like any cover, please seek this individually. Here are some providers that you might wish to consider: Endsleigh, Sports Direct.

For further information or queries, please contact the committee.
