LUUCC is one of the friendliest clubs in Leeds and one of the best kayaking clubs in the UK. We pride ourselves on being welcoming to everyone, regardless of their paddling experience.

We run weekly kayak training and canoe polo sessions as well as river trips/ tournaments at the weekend. Not only that, but we run kayaking weekends away and organise the National Student Rodeo (NSR) every year – a freestyle kayaking event for over 700 kayakers.

Please read on to see how COVID has impacted our club activity.

Membership

The annual membership includes access to the Edge pool for pool sessions, your insurance, full use of the club’s equipment (e.g. boat, paddle, wetsuit, helmet, spraydeck) and access to socials every week. We offer memberships to both students, alumni and non-students.

If you purchased membership last year (the 2020-2021 academic year) then please see the post linked here.

Socials

We are aiming to return to in-person socials, but this will be COVID dependent. Links to these will be posted on our Facebook page as and when they come up! We also try to end every pool session with a trip to the pub for a short catch-up.

Training

We have kayaking training sessions on Mondays at 8:40PM. This is to practice skills e.g. rolling.

Canoe polo sessions are on Thursdays at 8:40PM. Canoe polo is a fast-paced, semi-contact, 5-a-side game with the aim of getting a ball into the oppositions goal. We have teams competing in beginner to experienced tournaments.

We meet at the Chapel and walk over to The Edge together.

Trips

Sunday Trips: Every Sunday of each term we run a river trip. We drive out and paddle on a river for the day. Ending the day with a trip to the pub. Tickets can be found on our shop.

Weekend Trips: We host a number of weekends away kayaking across the year. The first trip takes place in November, the second takes place in January and a final trip takes place in March. On these weekends we drive somewhere and hire a village hall (or camp, depending on location) to sleep in. These legendary weekends are spent paddling during the day and partying during the night! These weekends are not to be missed.

NSR: The National Student Rodeo (or NSR) is a freestyle kayaking competition that is completely organised by your competition secretaries for over 700 paddlers across the UK.

BUCS Weekend: Once a year we head to compete in the BUCS canoe polo, the days will be filled with competitive canoe polo, whereas the evening will be filled with a huge party. Another one to not miss out on!
