Hello I'm Lucy, and I’m currently in my third-year. I’m excited to apply for the position of Vice President - Secretary of Cutting Edge.

This past year, I’ve had the privilege of taking on the role as Research Director, a new position that allowed me to shape and launch initiatives, connecting our members with research opportunities in surgery. From helping to organise our first research series to designing and distributing the research newsletter, I’ve developed strong skills in event planning, organisation, and outreach.

Through the newsletter, I focused on highlighting opportunities across a wide range of surgical specialities, and I’d love to continue expanding access to specialities as Secretary, making sure all members feel supported in exploring different career paths within surgery.

I also hope to support the next Research Director by helping create an opportunity for students to present their work, whether that’s as part of next year’s conference or through a dedicated research presentation event, helping members gain valuable experience and confidence in showcasing their interests.

As Secretary, I hope to continue to bring a strong sense of organisation, build and expand a network of contacts that can support next year’s conference, and a real enthusiasm for connecting students with opportunities in surgery.
I aim to support the Co-Presidents and committee in delivering events, communications, and new initiatives.

I'm excited to continue building on what we've achieved and to help make next year even more successful for Cutting Edge.

Hello everyone!

My name is Esther, and I am currently a third-year medical student. I am excited to run for the position of Vice President- Secretary of Cutting Edge.

Over the past year, I have had the privilege to serve as Outreach Officer for Cutting Edge, gaining valuable experience with admin, communication and coordination to ensure outreach events are run smoothly and successfully. I have seen first-hand how much work and planning goes into what we do, and I endeavour to use my skills of organisation and communication in an executive role within the society.

My experience in managing visits, organising communications, and overseeing outreach initiatives has given me the skills to excel in the role of secretary. I am confident that my passion for surgery combined with my dedication to the society will significantly contribute to Cutting Edge’s continuous growth and success.

Moreover, I am particularly excited to lead the ‘Publicity, Outreach and Specialties’ section of Cutting Edge. I aim to drive forward new initiatives such as a larger publicity presence on LinkedIn, hosting an on campus Surgical Outreach/Engagement Day for the sixth forms we are partnered with and introducing case-based discussion competitions to the annual conference.

Fundamentally, I am committed, organised and excited about supporting the team and wider society. If elected, I will ensure to be a dependable and supportive presence on the committee. I promise to be a sounding board and helping hand for any new initiatives that members want to run.
