Hi, my name is Andrew, I am a current year 3 medical student with a strong aspiration for a career in surgery and research. I am applying for research director as I want to be able to use my experience and knowledge of research in medicine and help others get involved in research as I know first-hand it can be particularly difficult.

This summer I am getting involved in an RCT on a system reporting tool for breast and colorectal cancer patients. I am hoping to develop key research skills and experience which I will be able to share with others as a research director next academic year. I also have a god network to get others in contact with the appropriate people to get into medical research and hope to provide opportunities for society members.

I have lots of ideas to implement as research director such as:
1. Facilitation with the Mentoring scheme which I am currently apart of.
2. Provide a researching series from researchers, clinicians and medical students on how to get involved with research as a medical student and a future career in the area.
3. Hold research competitions/events for people to present their own posters and research at, as well as essay competitions
4. Also research workshops, networking events, conferences and MUCH MORE

I have been a Cutting Edge member since my first year and I have taken part in many aspects of the society such as the infamous suturing series, the research series and the conferences. I would like to join the cutting edge committee as I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the society and I look forward to working with a team of medical students similarly passionate about surgery as me.

Hi everyone! My name is Abi, a soon-to-be fourth year, and I am excited to put myself forward for Research Director.

As a committed member of Cutting Edge, I have attended conferences, workshops, and teaching series, and I am eager to uphold and build on the society’s high standards.

Having presented self-led project at a national conference and currently contributing to an ongoing study, I understand the challenges of getting involved in research as a student. I am passionate about making research feel more accessible and less daunting for fellow CuttingEdge members.

This year, I have organised and delivered revision sessions as PALS2 co-ordinator. This role has developed my organisation and collaboration skills, which I would bring to the role of Research Director, and a member of the committee.

My ideas include:
- Breaking down areas or research, and how to evidence these for your portfolio (eg. Audits/QIPs) through the newsletter.
-Featuring student projects/presentations to inspire and inform others.
-Collaborating with other members of the society to introduce MedTech focussed events.
-Promoting external research opportunities, webinars, and conferences.
-Continuing and expanding the clinician and peer-led research teaching series.
