Hello, I’m Hasan Khushi, a Year 2 Medic and currently a Year 2 Pre-clinical Representative for Cutting Edge.

I would like to be Cutting Edge’s next Vice President - Treasurer.

One reason is that I have enjoyed being on committee this year and helping to organise and facilitate a number of events.

By electing me as Vice President - Treasurer, I hope to build further on my contributions to Cutting Edge.
Examples of my contributions include attending nearly all meetings, helping to facilitate both our national conference (‘Shaping the Future of Surgery’) and the ‘Suturing Series’ for all six sessions (I was the only committee member who didn’t organise the ‘Suturing Series’ to help at every session). This year, I have also had an over one-hour commute to get to university and therefore to events.
Furthermore, I organised and facilitated this year’s dissection room revision sessions (for year 1 and 2 students), and I collaborated with the Undergraduate Anaesthetics Society (UGAS) to deliver the well-received ‘Behind the Curtain: A Patient’s Journey Through Anaesthesia and Surgery’ teaching event.

As I have done this year, I will continue to contribute to the running of wider-society events, such as conferences, and grow Cutting Edge further.

Last year, I said, “I am ready to invest time and effort … and fulfil the role … to the best of my ability”.
I believe this year, I have proven my commitment to Cutting Edge and why I am ready to be your Vice President - Treasurer.

Hi everyone, my name is Oscar, and I am a current intercalating medic in anatomy, and I am excited to put myself forward for Vice President–Treasurer this year! Currently I am the skills and education co-ordinator for the society and now want to step forward into an executive role to offer some fresh ideas and perspectives for society.

As skills and education co-ordinator, my team and I organised the hugely successful 6-week suturing series. This is one of the most important and highly anticipated events in the Cutting Edge calendar, and this year has been no different. We received excellent feedback for all sessions and even received an award at this year’s Worsley awards. This is something I would like to oversee next year and collaborate with future skills and education co-ordinators explore future enhancements.
I am also an active member of the society elsewhere, where I regularly involve myself in teaching such as the DR anatomy sessions for years 1 and 2 and the year 3 mock OSCEs. I am committed to carrying forward such events next year as they are invaluable to students and me myself really enjoy teaching. I recognise that teaching for students in later years can be overlooked, so this is something I would seek to develop into the agenda for next year.

By leading the events side, I want to explore unique and novel surgical experiences for students. Cutting edge aims to motivate medical students to pursue a career in surgery, and I want to implement impactful surgical opportunities for students to align with this goal. This would involve working closely with other members, such speciality representatives and skills and education co-ordinators, to organise new workshops and events that are beyond the realm of what we learn at medical school. From attending conferences and numerous surgical events, I know there are expansive opportunities we can capitalise on for a range of specialities. These will aim to inspire students and build strong early portfolios all whilst being genuinely fun!

Financial management of the society is crucial, and something I believe I am well placed to handle. I understand the logistics of the society and can allocate and raise funding appropriately. My part time job involves managing daily cash flow in a busy restaurant, providing me with essential financial oversight skills which positions me well as treasurer.

My commitment to the society is absolute. If elected, I will dedicate myself to being an active and supportive leader within the committee and work meticulously to sure the further success of the society. I am confident that my strong work ethic and organisation ability will serve to undoubtedly maintain and elevate this already fantastic society.
