Hi! My name’s Scott (They/he), and I’m a transmasc non-binary person looking to be LGBT+ soc’s next treasurer! I’m currently studying a degree in Asia Pacific Studies, and for my final year at the University of Leeds I’d like to be able to give something back. I’ve really found a home away from home within the city’s queer community, and would love the opportunity to help provide a fun, inclusive and safe environment for all LGBT+ students at the university

I’ve worked within the fundraising and budgeting aspects of societies already through my involvement with the Uni Boob Team and Backstage society, and would like to be able to utilise that knowledge in a way that allows us to put on a range of sessions and events to help people connect with like-minded peers and organisations across the local area. I like the society’s attitude towards facilitating a wide range of events, including accessible and sober socials, and opportunities to seek out advice and support, if necessary – making sure that everyone feels welcomed, including to those who queer events usually don’t appeal.

If I was elected as treasurer, my priority would be to work as efficiently as possible, both within my own roles and collaboratively with the rest of committee, to make sure the society can continue to exist as a comfortable environment for all LGBT+ individuals. This includes new students, those questioning their identities and ones who are not fully out of the closet. I look forward to making the 23/24 LGBT+ society something to be really proud of!
