Welcome to LGBT

Welcome to Leeds University Union LGBT+ Society!

The aim of our society is to create a welcoming and liberating space for all LGBT students at Leeds - the core of our ethos is community, mutual aid, and solidarity, to lift and empower all LGBT students. We run the society for LGBT students, by LGBT students.

We host our free Coffee Hour between 12pm and 2pm Monday to Friday during term time in Room 2 of the LUU building (upstairs), where everyone is welcome to come sit, socialise, relax, and have a hot drink. We especially welcome newcomers, and you do not have to be a member to attend! We also have a book club that meets once a month.

As well as our coffee hour, we host a range of regular social events throughout term time for our members and the local community. We host a huge range of events with and without alcohol, from board game nights to raves, from film screenings to lectures and discussions. Every week is different, see our Instagram for more information on upcoming events!

We also work to improve the welfare of LGBT+ students, especially for those from other marginalised backgrounds. Our committee members act as Welfare Officers and are available to talk privately whenever you need. We can offer informal help and support, connect you with other LGBT+ organisations in Leeds and the UK, and signpost you to other welfare services in and out of LUU.

All queer students deserve to exist on campus with dignity and respect. We work behind the scenes to campaign for better treatment of queer students at the university - if you have any concerns about yourself or someone else, if you have witnessed any kind of harassment, discrimination or any other unacceptable behaviour, please do not hesitate to contact us or another LUU representative.

Our email address is lgbt@luu.group - we check our inbox weekly, please contact us here if you have a question or concern, or feel free to contact us on Instagram @luulgbtsoc.

Always remember - you are wanted here, you are loved.
