Hi, My name is Jonny (they/them), and I’m running for the position of Welfare officer (general) :)
I’m from Northern Ireland and am a first year History BA undergraduate student. Growing up in a conservative, anti-LGBT environment I often felt isolated, and recognise the importance of a having a support network to turn to and opportunities to make friends who are also in the LGBT+ community. The Society has been so welcoming to me in my time so far at Leeds. I have struggled for a long time with trying to be ‘the real me’ and feel a part of a community, but going to coffee hour and other society events has really helped me in working to overcome those issues. I have lots of experience in volunteering and working with others to plan and assist with various events. I hope to be there for anyone who needs advice, support or just have a chat.I’m really excited to hopefully get involved and do my part in making the society an inclusive and fun space.
