Hi. I'm Shuya. I'm nominating myself for the role of mentorship scheme coordinator.
I have been a pre-clinical rep this year and have organised several events to help year 2 students revise. Through it, I've gained the skills of organising events and cooperating with different people, in addition to running of a society.
For the coming fourth year, I will be exposed more to the clinical setting and get to know more surgeons in person. Therefore, I believe this position will both help me build my connection with the surgeons and help students develop their interest in surgery.
I'm a conscientious and responsible person. If I'm honored to be elected, I will organise interactive events for the mentorship scheme and help you get most out of your mentor-mentee bond.

Hey guys! My name is Mark and I’m a 3rd year medical student.

Last year, I applied for the cutting-edge mentorship scheme, and was paired up with an amazing consultant plastic surgeon. This allowed me to gain first-hand experience in my preferred specialty and to network with other experienced surgeons, ultimately resulting in me securing a great project/publication opportunity for next year. Clearly, I have benefited considerably from the mentorship scheme, and I would be honoured to take charge of helping others achieve similar opportunities. Should I be selected, I would ask speciality registrars (in addition to consultants) to be mentors, as they are earlier on in their career, and might have more time to devote to their mentees. I would also contact surgeons in Wakefield and Bradford, to make it easier for student mentees commuting from those areas to visit their mentor (and to also increase the raw number of mentors available to all student mentees willing to commute from Leeds). I’d also introduce a termly review programme, in which mentors and mentees answer a questionnaire relating to their experiences of the mentorship scheme, providing objective feedback to help us make any necessary changes needed to improve everyone’s experience. Hi everyone! My name is Rubab Ali and I am a second-year international student from Pakistan. My keen interest currently lies in General Surgery, driven by its diverse and challenging cases, along with the chance to swiftly make a significant impact on patients' lives.

I have been an active member of cutting edge since the past year having attended several of its conferences (Orthopaedic and trauma, general surgery talks) and suturing workshops. Through these events, I have witnessed firsthand the society’s dedication in creating awareness and bridging the gap in medical education and career exploration thus I would love to be part of such an impactful community.

I am deeply committed to initiatives aimed at narrowing the gap in medical education and career exploration. With this passion driving me, I believe I am well-suited for the role of Mentorship Coordinator. I am particularly impressed by the mentorship scheme, as it offers invaluable guidance and networking opportunities by pairing experienced surgeons with aspiring professionals.

As a former head girl in A Level and O'Levels, I have honed my skills in organising events and conferences, overseeing logistics and ensuring seamless execution. I have successfully led teams to coordinate various initiatives, demonstrating my ability to delegate tasks effectively and foster collaboration among team members.

Through interactions with numerous surgeons facilitated by Cutting Edge conferences and my research in colorectal pathology and vascular surgery, I have cultivated a robust network of professionals who can contribute to this scheme. My adept communication skills, honed through seeking research supervisors and being PALS1 Co-Lead, will enable me to effectively engage and persuade surgeons to become part of this amazing scheme. Since I will be starting 3rd year (more days on placement), it is a great opportunity for me to network on placement and persuade people from different specialities to join this scheme. My focus this year would be to diversify the set of surgeons so that all the specialities are covered and students get an insight of everything and can make their mind accordingly.
