I am honored to put forth my candidacy for the position of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Officer within CuttingEdge society. With a deep commitment to promoting EDI in surgery and a fervent dedication to inclusivity, I am eager to advocate for meaningful change and foster a more diverse and equitable environment for all members.

As the EDI Representative, my primary goal is to ensure that Cutting Edge remains at the forefront of promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the field of surgery. I am committed to taking proactive steps to diversify our membership and to create events that appeal to all society members, regardless of background or identity.

I will serve as a trusted advisor to the committee, providing valuable insights and perspectives on the potential impact of our initiatives from an equality and inclusion perspective. Drawing upon my passion for surgery and informed by current EDI initiatives in the field, I will spearhead projects aimed at raising awareness of EDI issues within surgery and advocating for positive change.

In addition to my role as the EDI Representative, I am eager to contribute to the committee as part of the publicity and welfare team. I believe that effective communication and support are essential components of a thriving community, and I am committed to ensuring that all members feel valued, supported, and included.

Hi, I’m Ash and I’m running for the role of EDI Officer. I understand that EDI is incredibly important in surgery to reflect the diverse communities served. An understanding of the value of EDI and the benefits it can bring is essential for maximising participation in society events and ensuring that all committee members feel valued and encouraged.

I believe that I possess the necessary skills to be able to carry out this role successfully. For instance, innovative thinking is important to be able to think of new ways to promote EDI in the society. Additionally, communication is vital to be able to put forward ideas with confidence to advocate for EDI in all aspects of the society, whilst also maintaining an open mind and taking on board other ideas. I also believe I possess the necessary teamwork skills to be able to work efficiently with other committee members, and also work well within the publicity and welfare team.

As EDI officer, I would keep up to date with current affairs in surgery, using them to inform any ideas of how EDI could be promoted in events, whilst also keeping up to date on any other EDI initiatives in surgery. I could then use this knowledge to inspire new EDI ideas in Cutting Edge.

It is essential to raise awareness about the importance of EDI in surgery, through running initiatives in the society, so that everyone can be informed about its extensive benefits and can be encouraged to uphold it, which is something that I would be committed to doing as EDI officer.
