Welfare officer is a role which you can work closely with the committee, members and the community around the society. it can also be flexible, often you can take on extra responsibilities as a committee member depending on your amount of free time. Overall, your responsibility is the welfare of society members. You are the first point of contact if any members have any issues that they need to discuss.
Examples of what you would be in charge of includes the welfare email account, which logins will be passed over by the current Welfare Officer. It is your role to promote this email address as a way for society members have a safe point of contact to go to for any help they may need. Of which you will need to be aware of what direction to point them in for the most appropriate help. Also it is important for you to communicate if anything detrimental from the society is expressed to you. For example, is something happens at femsoc events, discussions or group chats. It will be down to you to take necessary steps to resolve such as contacting LUU to discuss the incident or releasing a statement on social media.
The flexibility of the role is due to the fact that there aren't many set in stone responsibilities, just a role that can have a lot of potential responsibility based on the circumstances. It would be lovely if potential candidates had ideas of events/activities that could be held to promote well being, as examples in the past have included coffee hours for people to meet casually as a way to raise any concerns in person within a safe space. Other ideas could include collaborating with other mindful societies, holding any wellness art sessions or book clubs. It is another role that has a lot of potential depending on the time you can put into it!
If you are interested in this kind of position then please apply, as it is beneficial for character building, but also great for the CV. It is great to have someone friendly and kind-hearted, as the role provides opportunities to help and be there for others- making the society a safe and comfortable place to be.
