Hi! I’m Jack Taylor, a first year History student. I joined KarateSoc at the start of term 2 and have found it to be a really welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. Karate has been a huge part of my life since the age of 8, as a really important outlet for any stress or anxiety. Over the last 11 years, I achieved my Shodan and eventually grew into a more active leadership role within my home club, regularly contributing to teaching and mentoring younger and less experienced students.

I would love to take on the role of Secretary, as I see this as a great opportunity to exercise my previous karate leadership experience while also helping karate in Leeds grow, whilst ensuring every member has a positive experience. I feel that Secretary is the right role for me, as I have a strong sense of organisation and will be a reliable figure for the other committee members to lean on.

If I was successful in this application, I would love to take the club forward in the following ways:
1. Greater promotion of the club to attract higher numbers of new members each term.
2. More interaction and collaboration with other martial arts societies, to build a wider martial arts community within LUU, through joint socials and events.
3. Encourage increased teaching opportunities within Karate for experienced, or even less experienced students, as something which can be majorly valuable for all.

I’m really excited for the future of Karate Society, and I would love to have the opportunity to ensure that karate can keep giving to others what it has given to me.
