If everyone in your household is a full-time student you will be exempt from paying council tax. If you do receive a council tax letter you can apply for an exemption and may need to get a letter from the university that confirms you are a full-time student which you can send to the council. You should be able to get a letter that confirms you are a student through the Student Information Service.

You will receive a council tax bill if anyone you live with is not a full-time student and they will be liable to pay council tax. They you may still qualify for a discount of 25%. You can apply for a discount here

If you take some time and suspend your studies you should still be counted as a student and exempt from council tax.

If you have finished a course and are waiting to begin another, you may have to pay council tax until you have started and registered for the next course.
