Banking in the UK
If you are coming to Leeds from abroad you should set up a UK bank account. This will make setting up payments for bills easier as well as potentially avoid taking out cash and getting cash withdrawal fees.
You can ideally start the process of setting up a UK bank before you come over. As some traditional banks require you to have already been living in the UK for 6 months to set up an account, many international students opt for opening an account with a digital bank. You can find a list of different digital banks here
A benefit of opening up an account with a traditional bank is that they will have branches open that you can go into for help if you have any issues. However, it's also important to note that it may not be an immediate process and you may have to wait to be able to use your new account. Some banks will have accounts tailored to international students or students in general. You will likely need to show your BRP in order to open an account.
You can also speak to your current bank provider in your home country as they may have have branches in the UK too, such as Bank of China.
