Quidditch is an inclusive mixed-gender, full-contact sport for two teams of seven players. There are over 300 teams across the world! The sport incorporates elements of rugby, dodgeball and basketball amongst other sports.
Leeds Griffins Quidditch Society prides itself on being a part of the wide, inclusive sporting community since its founding by QuidditchUK in 2011. We welcome players of all ability, gender identity, and background. Whether you want to just try something new, get active, or get on the ladder to climb to national and international league quidditch championships, Griffins has a place for you!
We train on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1pm-4pm on Woodhouse Moor. We suggest you bring along water, layers (fleece, waterproof, etc), and studded shoes (trainers are fine, but studs make running a lot easier, especially in wetter weather!). We usually meet at 12:30pm at the Student Union to collect equipment.
The Griffins run regular socials varying from a pint and a meal in the pub to Otley Runs! Even over lockdown, we hosted events such as Charity Pub Quiz fundraisers, watch parties, and the all-time favourite picture-drawing guessing games.
This year we’re planning more house parties and activities like laser tag to help build team cohesion and have lots of fun! We also have pub nights on Fridays, a Halloween party, as well as our Christmas ball! We're also bringing back team bodyweight fitness sessions if you want to stay active and join your teammates for some nice workouts. If there’s an event you want to organise, just suggest it!
Each year we travel to quidditch tournaments hosted by other clubs across the country. Recent results in regional and national tournaments have been as follows:
Northern Cup 2016 – 6th place
The British Quidditch Cup 2018 – 16th place
The Odyssey Fresher's cup 2019 – 3rd place
Northern Cup 2019 – 14th place
The Odyssey Fresher's cup 2021 – 3rd place
