Welcome to Horse Riding
About Us
Leeds University Union Horse Riding Club is a friendly group that caters for compete beginners through to advanced riders and everyone in-between! Whether you have never sat on a horse, compete regularly, or just want to meet new people, LUUHRC can offer something to new and existing members!
We ride at Harrogate Riding Centre, which has two indoor schools and an outdoor arena, as well as many different horses and ponies to suit every rider. Transport is provided from the Parkinson steps to the riding centre and back via coach.
Lessons
Lessons run on a Wednesday (2pm) and Saturday (2pm) and you can pick and choose what sessions to attend. Competitions and games are often held which is a great way to meet new people and have lots of fun!
We have four levels of lessons for riders of different capabilities. This can be assessed when you first arrive at the yard to ensure you get the most out your lesson!
Lessons cater to those who have never ridden a horse, to those who can canter and jump.
Trial lessons are available for non-beginners.
Click here for the sign-up form for lessons. Lessons must be paid for in advance.
Cancellation policy applies:
- You must cancel your lesson 48 hours before or you will still be charged even if you don't attend. It is your responsibility to ensure you book the right date, time and turn up to the bus on time. We cannot give refunds to missed lessons for these reasons or any health reasons unless 48h notice is given.
Teams
Teams are aimed at riders who are experienced at riding and can ride a prelim-novice test and jump a course of 80cm. You will ride a variety of horses and must be confident in getting on a new horse! We have four teams where you will compete against other universities in dressage and showjumping on a randomly allocated horse. Teams are a great way to improve your riding ability, and you are judged by your style. We run separate training sessions for team members to focus on dressage tests, jumping, and more!
Team riders have the opportunity to qualify for regional and national events, and each team will compete in 3-5 competitions throughout the year.
To be considered for teams you must attend Flat Trials first where you will ride a few different horses. From then you may be invited to our Mock Competition run in BUCS style where you will do a dressage test and a showjumping round on 2 different horses which is based on style and your ability to adapt to a new horse.
To sign up for flat trials please click the link: LUUHRC Teams Registration (google.com) and buy a Flat Trials ticket in products, which will become available soon. Mock competition tickets can also be bought on Engage after Flat Trials.
Team training is held in small groups of 4-5 people, and one of our members will drive to the session from the agreed-upon point.
Socials
Social memberships are available for those who do not want to ride but would like to get involved in our socials and events. This allows you to attend our socials such as Mischief, Otley Run, bowling, laser tag and quiz nights! Socials are a great way to meet our members.
