We’re Leeds Snowriders, the University of Leeds’ one and only ski and snowboard club. We run snowsports holidays, compete in national competitions, hold the biggest socials in Leeds and shred every week at our local fridge. Members can expect low-price holidays twice a year, entry to socials (bar tabs!!), and access to our ever growing list of sponsors. Beginner or pro, skier or boarder, fresher or final year – come and give it a go! After far too long on the side-lines, we really can’t wait to meet you all!
Whether you’ve never skied before or you’ve done ten seasons in the Alps, ski trips are 10000% guaranteed to be the best thing you could possibly do at Uni! Over the years we have taken thousands of students on trips that they will never ever forget and by working closely with our partners Wasteland Ski we keep it as cheap as possible for you all. The base price of every trip will buy you return transport (essential), accommodation (useful), lift pass (depends if you actually want to ski), an event wristband (your one-way ticket to Après heaven), and that all-important trip merchandise.
On top of your six days on the slopes, every Snowriders trip has a tailor-made events schedule meaning it’s your only way of attending exclusive Après events at world-famous venues and getting priority access to the best nights out in Alpine Europe. We promise that everyone’s tastes are catered for… if everyone’s tastes are French nightclubs filled with Leeds Uni students – which they are.
Our trips always sell out super fast, so don’t hang about, come and join us! The only pre-requisite to booking on is your £20 membership and, if you’re reading this, it seems you’ve already completed that step! (And if not, what are you waiting for??)
Key dates this year:
Christmas Tignes Trip - 10th-18th December! Booking goes live at 12pm on Wednesday 13th October. (See the Facebook event page for all the info you need!)
Easter Val Thorens Trip - 25th March-2nd April! Booking goes live in January. (Facebook event will be released closer to the time with all the info you need!)
We are always looking for ways that everyone can get involved with our society, and this has to be the easiest way! We throw pretty good socials, and they have been known to be the best in Leeds. So, how do we get to make the biggest and craziest socials ever? We have been known to put lots of money behind the bar, this year we will be giving out drinks tokens to ensure everyone gets their fair share of the drinks! We also have loads of activities planned at the socials so that everyone can get to know each other, because sometimes the race and freestyle teams don’t overlap enough. You don’t have to be a big drinker to attend our socials either, they are just as much fun for sober people too! Everyone is welcome!
Our first social is on the last day of fresher’s week, Friday the 24th of September, at the Packhorse pub from 3pm onwards. We’ll have a load of free stuff to give away so don't miss out on this one, it's gonna be BIG!!!
We have a social every month throughout term courtesy of our social king Henry, with different themes, venues and opportunities to get your hands on free stuff at each. So keep your eyes peeled for what’s coming up.
Riding during term
If racing is your thing or you just want to give it a go, every other Tuesday we take a bus of speed demons to down to Castleford indoor ski slope to give some slalom a go. £20 will buy you 2 hours skiing, full equipment hire and travel – all you need is some long trousers, a pair of gloves and a helmet (if you haven’t got one, come and speak to us in Terrace). Castleford sessions are open to all abilities, if you’re a seasoned racer we would love to see you down there! If you are a recreational skier/boarder our radgie Race Captain Emer Weir will train you up to be a reet canny racer. Every week Mt. Cas is set up with a mixture of gates and open slope for you to take the session at your own pace, so Tuesdays are the one if you just fancy a casual ski. By the time the trips come around you’ll be sure to be the fastest skier on the mountain.
We also take a busload of freestyles to the fabulous Cas Vegas every Thursday. Jumps, rails, boxes and more, all for the low low price of £20! Same as race, all you need are gloves, trousers and a helmet and you are good to go. The sessions are the perfect place to develop skills at all levels - if you can make it down a green slope, you can do it! Whether its hitting the big line and sending a cork or its hitting a box slide, Cas is the perfect place to learn. If you have any questions feel free to ask Max or any of the committee.
Not only this, but once a term we go to Graystone in Manchester. With trampolines and ramps, it’s the perfect place to practise safely, especially if you want to join the upside down club!
We will also be organising beginners lessons and ladies nights, so follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date with everything we have planned.
Both race/casual and freestyle trips sell out every week so if it’s something you’re interested in, check the 'products' section of our LUU Engage page regularly to sign up as soon as our sessions are released. There will also be a Facebook event made for every session so that you can keep track of when we're going. Also, you can come and see us in Terrace (in the Union) 12:30-1:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to ask us any questions, be that be about sessions or anything else! We look forward to seeing you!
Competitions are a massive part of the club so we want to take as many sliders as we can. It is a great opportunity to show off or just give it a good go. Even if you don’t fancy competing, we would love to take you as a spectator. If you have had fun at our trips and socials, the competitions will be right up your ally. We will bring our speakers and supporters out in force so we have a sick time whatever the outcome. Racing and freestyling aside, competitions are sociable days for you to get more out of your membership.
If you want to try out for our freestyle and racing competitions come down to one of our weekly sessions and speak to our Race and Freestyle captains Emer and Max for more information.
We have a busy competition schedule this year, taking us all over the UK! Most of the smaller competitions are local, but we’ll also be heading up to BUDS in Edinburgh for a messy weekend with loads of other UK universities, so don’t miss out!!
