What we’re all about
ShockSoc - the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Society, is open to all undergraduates and postgraduates as well as hobbyists.
What we offer:
Robot Fighting League
Robot Fighting League is an event similar to BBC 2's Robot Wars hosted by ShockSoc in the University. Have a go at building your own 5kg fighting robot to become the Leeds RFL champion!
Skill Development lab sessions
We will be running lab sessions every Wednesday in first semester to teach you the basics of how to build a fighting robot for ShockSoc. You will have the unique opportunity to get hands on experience with components as well as learning some vital skills such as CAD, RC electronics and soldering.
Also on Wednesday's we will be running a coding development lab using Pololu 3PI robots... As this is new for this year we will have more information in the coming weeks.
We run highly successful monthly socials, like our freshers Otley Run, or our end of exam socials. Exact calendar of all our events are coming soon.
We are in the process of trying to re-ignite out sports teams after the pandemic. We hope to have a 5-a-side, 7-a-side and 11-a-side football team up and running very soon alongside training session and entering into tournaments. We plan to launch a new e-sports section as well in the near future.
Think we have enough players for a different sport? Get in touch and we will see what we can do!
Membership is free for all Electronic Engineering and Mechatronics & Robotics students (Anybody in the school of EEE), or £7 for non EEE students. This is in the process of being set up.
Being a member gives you access to compete in RFL, the RFL skills development labs (aimed to increase practical skills), all of our socials and events plus more to be announced soon... we have some very exciting projects in the works that you do not want to miss!
