Welcome to PGR Society
We’re a student-led society for Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) at the University of Leeds, created to help PGRs build a community, meet new people and enjoy university life outside of research.
We know that doing a PhD or other postgraduate research degree can sometimes make it difficult to feel involved in wider university life. PGR Society is here to change that by creating a welcoming space where researchers from across Leeds can socialise, unwind and connect with one another.
What do we do?
We’re guided by the interests and ideas of our members, so our programme will grow around what PGRs actually want to do. Some of the activities we’re planning include:
* Social evenings and pub socials
* Pub quizzes and other games
* Book clubs and opportunities to discuss ideas and research
* PGR sports activities, including five-a-side football
* Walks and hikes around Leeds and Yorkshire
* Trips to local places such as Saltaire, Skipton, Hebden Bridge and beyond
* Visits and day trips to places such as York
* Coffee & Craft drop-in sessions
* Movie nights
* Opportunities to collaborate with other societies and organise activities for PGRs
Our aim is to create regular opportunities to step away from the desk, meet other researchers and enjoy everything Leeds has to offer.
Inclusivity is one of our core values. Our events are open to PGRs from all backgrounds, disciplines and stages of research, and we want everyone to feel welcome. Whether you’re new to Leeds, looking to meet people outside your research group, want to take a break or simply want a bit more of a social life alongside your PhD, PGR Society is for you. Come along to an event, meet fellow PGRs and help us shape what the society becomes. Have an idea for an event or activity? We’d love to hear it!
