The English Society is a safe and welcoming place for students with a passion for English to meet and connect with each other. We are an academic society so our goal is bringing English students together outside of class time, but everyone is welcome to join. We have an extensive programme of events and socials lined up all with the aim of enhancing your university experience. 

We offer regular socials, trips to different parts of the UK, and we even have our own EngSoc netball team which hosts weekly training sessions and plays matches against other societies. 

Also, come and join us at English Tea, every Wednesday afternoon, in the School of English building! 

Meetings and Events

The English Society seeks to host a variety of inclusive and interesting events for those with interests in Literature, Theatre, Poetry, Language, and Creative Writing. The Committee meets weekly and welcomes attendance and suggestions from all our members.

Socials

We offer our members regular socials throughout the year, with a varied programme of events on offer. Our socials range from club nights and pub quizzes, to movie nights and a weekly English tea event. These are all a great way to make new friends and connect with like-minded people.

Every year, we look forward to our annual society ball which takes place in the summer term!

EngSoc Netball

The English Society Netball Team is a friendly and relaxed environment in which members can play social style netball on a regular basis. Training sessions are run weekly by our Sports Secretaries and friendly fixtures and tournaments are organised throughout the year. Themed social nights are also hosted for our netball team.
