ABOUT US

Performing Arts Society (PAS) is the only completely non-audition musical theatre society at Leeds University Union. We offer weekly singing, dance and acting classes in a relaxed and supportive environment, which welcomes everyone, from absolute beginners to advanced performers. Throughout the year, we develop our performance skills, guided by our Singing Teacher, our Dance Captain and Committee members. Each week, we practise different songs, dance styles and acting techniques, working towards an end-of-year Showcase in May.

We hold a Give It A Go (GIAG) class at the start of each term. This is a taster class where you can trial our singing, dance and acting components in one session. Tickets for our Semester 1 GIAG will go live on here in September - check our social media for updates closer to the time.

SOCIALS

We have a variety of socials every 2 weeks that vary between paid/unpaid, sober/drinking and on-campus/off-campus events. Past socials include:

  • Karaoke
  • Laser tag
  • Movie night
  • Costume party

OUR COMMUNITY

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming community. Every year, we have new members with no previous experience of musical theatre who end up performing with confidence on stage in our showcase. Many members have also made life-long friendships in our society.

PAS is a perfect stepping stone for a career in the creative industries. Recent alumni have gone on to work in the theatre, film and television sectors.

INCLUSIVITY

Inclusivity is at the heart of our society. Our classrooms are wheelchair accessible and our sessions are tailored to all abilities. If you have any concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch using the contact details below.

MEMBERSHIPS

Our membership fee for the 2026/27 academic year is £20.

This price includes:

  • access to all our classes and opportunity to attend socials;
  • a place in our end-of-year Showcase;
  • a chance to vote in elections, attend committee meetings and nominate yourself for committee next year!

Memberships open in September but you can join us at any point in the year. We also offer the opportunity to try 3 classes for free before buying a membership.

Our memberships depend on which university you attend:

  • Uni of Leeds students should buy a Student Membership.
  • Students from any other uni should buy a Participant Membership.

Our £20 membership fee goes towards paying our class instructors and hiring professional equipment for our Showcase. Though we try to keep costs to a minimum, some social events may require a small additional cost. We want everyone to have access to our society, so if the membership is not financially feasible, please get in touch with us.
