Welcome to Leeds Undergraduate Anaesthetics Society - UGAS

Hello and welcome to UGAS!

We have re-formed a society centred around Anaesthetics and Intensive Care, an increasingly popular speciality in Medicine. This has previously been a sub-society as part of MSRC but it has since gone dormant. We would like to bring it back but allow individuals to not have to be a member of MSRC, opening it up to other healthcare students. We would like to deliver careers and entry advice, teaching on Respiratory physiology, Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine by working with a range of Anaesthetists and Intensivists across Yorkshire, and help our members access research opportunities as well as understanding the latest research in the field by hosting sessions for students led by committee, researchers and clinicians.

Furthermore, we wish to be able to host hands-on teaching by using University resources - with consent and supervision - such as simulation, relevant clinical skill mannequins and ultrasound machines to practice Point of Care Ultrasound, a rapidly expanding area of Anaesthetics.

We are in contact with similar societies across the country with the aim of collaborating on events and potentially conferences.

OUR AIM

To allow individuals to get a snapshot of anaesthetics and come together with others with a clinical interest in the area to allow for collaboration and multi-disciplinary working with current professional guidance. It will allow for individuals to explore the speciality in a more equal way, reducing the need to have existing contacts to enter Anaesthetics.
