Welcome to the Leeds University Union Motorsport Society!

The multi-award-winning society brings you karting, sim racing, F1 socials, and everything motorsport-related - we have something for all motorsport fans!

We at LUU Motorsport compete in the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC), run our own in-house karting championship affectionately dubbed the Tour de Yorkshire, have a sim-racing hot lap challenge, host weekly socials to watch every Formula 1 race, and a whole lot more! Please note: You do not need a driving license to take part in any of our karting activities.

Karting

BUKC: LUU Motorsport competes in the BUKC (British University Karting Championship), racing against over 50 other UK universities in karts capable of speeds of over 75mph and 5-60 in 4.5 seconds. There are 8 rounds at 4 tracks nationwide, plus several test days throughout the year. The level of competition ranges from beginners trying BUKC for the first time to British Formula 3 race-winners across 4 competition tiers (Rookies, Intermediates, Clubmans, Premiers). TdY: Typically consisting of 8 rounds, the Tour de Yorkshire takes members across Yorkshire to the crème de la crème of local indoor and outdoor karting circuits. This is the perfect place for beginners to try karting and hone their racing skills, you're guaranteed to see some fantastic racing all through the field! This championship will also include special group endurance rounds so keep an eye out for those!

Women's Only Events: This event is similar to our TdY events. It is the perfect event for women to go karting whether you have experience or not. We run a Women's Only GIAG at Fresher's Week, during Refresher's Week and other experienced driving events throughout the year. We will be hosting our annual collaborative Women's Only event with loads of other universities across the UK in Semester 2!

Give-it-a-Gos: Each year during Fresher's and Refresher's week we will host a variety of GIAG karting events at our local track TeamSport Leeds! This event is for novice and beginner karters and is a great way to try the fastest sport on offer at Leeds!

In-person Socials

We run a vast variety of socials including our fun nights out, quiz and game nights, bowling, wellbeing sessions and Formula 1 watch-along socials every race weekend! Perfect for anyone looking to meet new people with an interest in motorsport.

Online Socials

Through our Discord server, we run our fortnightly sim-racing hot lap challenge ‘e-TdY’ where you compete with other members to set the fastest time across different games and car/track combos! We also regularly host gaming and movie nights as well as qualifying watchalongs!

Membership

Give It A Go events, socials, and sim-racing will not require a membership. All our other events, including BUKC and TdY, will require membership for you to have access to tickets. You can find tickets to all our up-and-coming events and purchase our £35 yearly membership on LUU Engage. Your membership purchase will include the LUU Personal Accident Insurance for Motorsport.

Standard Membership – Available only to University of Leeds students, this membership will give full advantages of your membership.

Affiliate Membership – Available only to students that are at other institutions in Leeds (Beckett, Trinity, Leeds Conservatoire, University of Law & Leeds College of Art). This membership will allow people to attend all events and meetings, vote and run for non-core committee positions. They will not be allowed to run/vote for President, Treasurer or Secretary.

Public Membership – Available to anyone not eligible for standard or affiliate membership, this membership will allow people to attend your events and meetings but not be able to run/vote in any elections.
