Welcome to Women in Surgery Society (WinS)

Women in Surgery Society - WinS. This is a society that has already been set up by many medical schools across the UK in order to both empower women to pursue surgery and provide support/opportunities for those who do.

Advocating for gender equality - The society would focus on promoting gender equality within the surgical field. This will be done by providing mentors that can act as female role models and provide opportunities to network, hone surgical skills and get involved with research. This will fill women with more confidence in order to pursue a surgical specialty by helping them build a surgical portfolio. Female surgeons will be invited to give talks on topics such as overcoming gender inequalities, imposter syndrome and provide insight into their specialty.

Representation and support - Aligning with LUU’s commitment to representing and supporting all students, the society would ensure that the voices and concerns of female surgical students are heard, contributing to a more inclusive university environment.
