We are Baking Society a really fun, friendly and chilled out society, whether making, creating or tasting is your thing, Baking Soc can help you begin or continue your hobby. Seasoned experts and complete beginners come together to share sneaky tips and tricks for getting the most out of a tight student budget to ensure you always have a sweet treat to help you (and your housemates) through assignments! With very affordable membership (as little as £10 for the year) it’s definitely worth it. This year we are looking forward to a return of in-person meetings, and we are super excited to see you all there and to taste all your amazing bakes again!
Traditionally, we meet every other week on a Tuesday at 6pm in Common Ground (Ground floor of Union). You can either be a baker, where you bring a bake to meetings, or if not a taster where you simply come along and sample all the yummy bakes – dinner for that evening will be sorted! Each meeting will have a different theme, which is chosen by a vote. Past themes include chocolate week, bakes beginning with the first letter of your name, and savoury. We enjoy everyone’s efforts and chat about different techniques used and any difficulties faced among many other things.
We also have social events throughout the year including screenings of The Great British Bake Off, and highlights such as the Cakely Run (our version of an Otley Run but around Cafes in Leeds) and a trip out for afternoon tea.
Our membership costs £10, and will allow you to come along to all our meetings.
As previously said you can be a baker and bring along a bake to meetings, or a taster where you get to sample all the delicious bakes but you'll also have to bring an additional £1 for each meeting.
This year, everyone who buys membership will get access to the course to complete a Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety certificate (this lasts for 3 years) which needs to be completed to allow you to safely bake for meetings. We are encouraging all members to complete this so if you decide one week you want to bake you have that option!
We regularly update our social media pages so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date. If social media isn’t your thing then feel free to email us and we can answer any questions you may have.
