An exciting, new society encompassing the breadth of general surgery (breast, colorectal, endocrine, upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI), transplant, vascular, emergency general surgery and trauma surgery). The society aims to provide focused specialty talks, workshops as well as career talks giving insights on how budding surgeons can achieve their competitive specialty. Robotic surgery will also be covered as a sub-specialty as it is now being increasingly used across general surgery. General surgery presentations comprise a large proportion of GP visits and acute admissions to secondary care; increasing exposure to general surgery throughout medical school will benefit learning for students even if they choose to pursue careers in emergency and general medicine as well as general practice.
