Welcome to Muay Thai
What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is a form of hand to hand combat originating in Thailand that was originally devised for the battlefield. Our fighting style, often referred to as the ‘Art of Eight Limbs’, incorporates the use of punches, elbows, knees and kicks for striking. Additionally, Thai boxing also incorporates sweeps and the clinch, making it the most practical and versatile striking discipline.
With our society, you can start as a complete beginner with no prior experience and just come along when you fancy to learn something new, or train at a serious level and have the opportunity to fight in Interclub events or even full decision fight nights!
Training
We hold 4 training sessions a week:
Bad Company (Waterloo Way, Bramley, Leeds LS13 2EF):
The 2-hour training sessions on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays are with different experienced coaches from Bad Company gym who are active, high-level professional Muay Thai fighters. These sessions combine technical training, fitness + conditioning and sparring.
These sessions are far away so make sure to join the WhatsApp community (link at the end of this page and also on the Instagram) and join the ride share group chat, to get a lift there or offer to other members if you have a car.
The edge (University of Leeds, Willow Terrace Road, Leeds LS2 9JT):
The 1-hour sessions on Thursdays are more beginner friendly and relaxed, teaching the basics and having fun learning Muay Thai without the same level of intensity.
Socials
We hold a variety of socials throughout the year including drinks after our Thursday sessions every week, the classic 'Otley Run', Live viewings of major UFC or One championship events, the traditional Thai Full Moon party and more!
Membership
Annual membership cost £20.
It is then £5 for sessions at the Edge and £6 for sessions at Ichiban.
If you love Muay Thai and think you'll be coming along regularly, we'd recommend buying 10 sessions for £30 or paying for the whole semester or year, getting a significant discount.
If you would like any more information just drop us a message, or turn up to one of the sessions; it doesn’t matter if you miss the first ones, just come along any time.
