Formation Description

There are high levels of compulsory and optional modules exclusive to the IHP degree. A dedicated society where students can receive and offer specific guidance as opposed to the History Society's much more general overview would be invaluable.

The benefits of an IHP Society emerge in part from a well-being perspective. The IHP compulsory module 'IHP Long Essay' is notoriously mentally taxing and having a forum to discuss, meet up, and generally have fun at dedicated socials will go a long way in protecting individuals' mental health.

This would also be bolstered by IHP sports teams that would offer both the comradeship and exercise vital to an individual's general welfare.

The smaller nature of these teams would enable relationships to be made with establishments (such as Dry Docks) to host regular socials and provide an avenue for those uninterested in sports societies to not miss out on Wednesday nights.

Also, a large proportion of IHP students do a year abroad. These are both challenging to do and return from. An IHP society ensures people discuss their years abroad and find friends to talk through their fears. It also means that when students return they have a strong support and friend group.
