Formation Description

We were inspired to look into starting a BSL society after noticing the lack of education about communication with those in the deaf and hard of hearing communities on our university course, and in general. We recognise that this is a skill that is relevant for all careers and daily life, with around 150,000 people currently using BSL. Therefore, we would like to give people the opportunity to be able to learn sign language in a friendly, inclusive, in person environment given that many courses are paid and online. We also feel that it is important to raise awareness about the community itself and promote local charities that are doing important work and try to help them through fund-raising and hosting talks and events. In the future, we hope to offer certified training to members.
