Formation Description

We are passionate about forming this society to run by second semester of this academic year (2023-24). This way we can bring our special focus to the society, which is to bring PPE students and enthusiasts together, for social activities as well as academic ones. Since the PPE course is highly academic and there is currently no space for PPE students to relax and engage together, we greatly value the social element of starting this society. We hope to attract students of all ages and levels, not just to provide a fun networking space, but so that we can eventually pass on the roles of responsibility and keep the passion for PPE society alive for many years to come. Activities would be a mix between socially focused and subject focused. Social activities would include ‘get to know each other’ drinks, pub quizzes, and larger socials. Subject focused activities would include talks by relevant speakers, organised debates or Q&As on relevant topics. Larger events could involve the opportunity to go on relevant trips or to provide a winter or summer ball for larger numbers of students – however, these may be further down the line. PPE Society was an existing society last year, with similar ambitions to ours. However, unfortunately the baton of responsibility was never passed down, as no election for committee members for this academic year took place and the society languished. That’s why we are focused on providing an engaging space where students can share in their interest in politics, philosophy, and economics in a fun and exciting way, so that the society can continue after our reign on the committee.
