Formation Description

- The idea Comprising of committee members who come from Latin America, the society is born from a passionate desire to promote a deeper appreciation for the diverse cultures, histories, and traditions of Latin America. Our society aims to create an inclusive and engaging space where students can explore, learn, and connect with the rich cultures of Latin American heritage. - The ambition of the society Our ambition is to become a vibrant and influential society on campus, known for promoting cultural diversity and understanding. We aspire to establish lasting connections growing every year among students, faculty, and the broader community, all while celebrating the beauty and significance of Latin America. Aiming to serve as a bridge between Latin American traditions and the broader university population. - 2-3 objectives of the society 1. Cultural appreciation - To provide opportunities for members to immerse themselves in Latin American culture through events, workshops, and cultural showcases. 2. Community Engagement - To create a welcoming and supportive community where lasting friendships are formed, and members collaborate on projects that contribute positively to Latin American causes. 3. Educational Engagement - To promote awareness and understanding of Latin American history, society, and contemporary issues through discussions, and awareness campaigns. - The types of activities we would like to run 1. Cultural Nights: Dance, music, and food events showcasing the rich traditions of Latin America 2. Social events: Pub quizzes, club nights, Otley runs, Bingo nights. 3. Language Exchange Sessions: Opportunities to practice and learn Spanish and Portuguese. 4. Film Screenings: Showcasing Latin American cinema and its diverse narratives. 5. Charity and Awareness Campaigns: Engage in community service projects that support Latin American communities or raise funds for charitable causes. 6. We believe this is an important society to have as it is an under represented group within the University. We have a mission to educate, celebrate and connect with Latin American cultures and make it a valuable addition to our university's community.
