Formation Description
The idea of our Society Through this Society, we shall commemorate and celebrate important days in the life of Dr Ambedkar. We shall organize talks, seminars, conferences, book launches etc. on Dr Ambedkar, and from movements and icons across the globe rooted in social justice and equality. The writings and speeches of Dr Ambedkar have been collectively curated into volumes by the government of India and translated into several Indian languages. We shall gather regularly as a reading circle to read and discuss his works. We shall also seek to find volunteers to translate his work into other foreign languages, specifically European languages. To diversify our activities, we shall concentrate on the cultural realm – we are looking forward to staging plays, hosting musical events, screening documentaries and feature films. The performances shall not be merely to showcase the talent of the members of the Dr Ambedkar Society, University of Leeds, but rather from those involved in these activities in their professional capacities. As a tribute to Dr Ambedkar for choosing education as a path to liberation, we shall create a support system for first-generation students who are pursuing higher education at the University of Leeds. We shall conduct peer-learning sessions on essential academic and interpersonal skills. The ambition of our society The last few decades have seen a growing global attention towards Dr Ambedkar.
