Formation Description
The reason behind starting this society is that while there are some existing underwater hockey clubs in Yorkshire, they can be quite inaccessible to students due to travel and cost. For this reason, many players may either reduce the amount they play or stop playing altogether. We would like to create a space (ideally at the Edge as the kit is stored there) where a weekly training session can be held to encourage students to continue playing. This is incredibly important, not just to give players an outlet / time away from work doing a sport they enjoy, but also because there are some University of Leeds students who have played for Team GB at a World Championships who potentially would have further benefitted from an extra training space and extra support through ties with the University. Relating to this, the society would also provide students with the opportunity not just to train, but also to compete in friendlies with other universities, national tournaments or even give students the opportunity to trial for Team GB. Students would be able to commit as much or as little time as they want to, so it would be accessible to most!
