This society intends to provide a safe space for Muslim dental students so that they can enjoy their time at the university without feeling they have missed out on social events due to religious beliefs. Whilst Dentsoc does endeavor to cater for everyone, hosting some non-alcohol events etc., there are Muslim students who feel that these events are few and far between. For example, there are many events where drinks are not the focus but are still present and this makes a lot of students feel uncomfortable in this environment. Instead of encroaching on Dentsoc and students of other faiths, we would therefore like to set up a society where all events will be friendly to Muslim dental students as well as everyone else. Anyone would be welcome to come along regardless of their faith and partake in our social events. The key aim is to provide a society where Muslim dental students can network and socialize, knowing that they can go to all events on offer, enjoying their membership to the fullest. We hope that this society can coexist with Dentsoc and indeed run events alongside them collaboratively. Moreover it would be a means for dental students to network with members of Leeds Muslim Medics and other similar societies. This would be a great benefit as both professions require the ability to work with people from other healthcare sectors, so our members would be able to start their networking journey in an environment where they feel comfortable and welcome.
