Formation Description
We want to start the Leeds Punjabi Society to build a space where Punjabi culture can be celebrated, shared, and experienced by everyone. While many students come to university hoping to stay connected to their roots, there are few platforms that truly represent the richness of Punjabi identity - from its music, dance, and food to its values of community and togetherness.
By creating this society, we hope to bring people together - whether they are Punjabi or simply interested in learning about the culture and form a welcoming community that promotes unity, pride, and understanding. Our goal is to make Punjabi culture more visible on campus through fun, inclusive events and collaborations, helping students feel a stronger sense of belonging while educating and engaging the wider university.
Ultimately, we want Leeds Punjabi Society to stand as a celebration of diversity, a bridge between cultures, and a home for anyone who wants to experience the energy and warmth of Punjabi life.
We have assessed the interest in this society and can confidently say that it is something students are actively looking for. Many were disappointed to learn that there isn’t currently an active Punjabi Society, and this is something prospective students take into consideration when choosing a university. We have already shortlisted 11 potential committee members and have over 70 students who have expressed interest in joining. With this level of enthusiasm, we are confident the society will thrive and bring people together
