Formation Description
Being in a group of 9 friends who are all Desi but born and brough up in the Middle East that have the same confusion of joining a society that is related to our ethnicity or a society that is related to the country we call "home" where some of us are born or lived for some part of our life and seeing how many other students who face the same issue as us is one of the main reasons we believe that the establishment of MEDS'S is crucial. Seeing that the university has societies for South Asian students and Arab students separately, the idea of MEDS'S is to provide a platform to bring together students like us considering the high number of students who face the same third culture experience and the intersection of these two worlds. Our vision of the society is beyond just people like us but also for people who are interested in our culture. Through events such as Karak and Chai, Shawarma Making Night, celebrating all the different festivals and the overall aim of this society we will provide a feeling of vital support and a sense of belonging for all students especially international students, which is crucial in order to tackle the feeling of isolation various desi students may face as they come here. As this society is open for anyone to join we also promote campus wide cultural understanding and collaboration. A strong foundation with a team of 9 students ready to bring a large group that is fragmented to unity by finding this society.
